  Riedel Wine-tasting and Dinner Amical at the Grand Hotel Europe


On May 17, 2006 Master class wine-tasting leaded by famous glass-maker George Riedel followed by the Dinner Amical in L'Europe Restaurant took place in the Grand Hotel Europe.                                


The evening was dedicated to two significant events: celebration of the 250th anniversary of Riedel glassware and won of the L'Europe Restaurant in the city competition "My favorite Restaurant". All guests had a chance to make a journey through the magic world of glasses and senses and experience how different glasses influence on the taste of wine.


Four types of exclusive wines and wonderful three-course menu were presented for experienced members of the Guild:

Wines: Chardonnay IGT. Boccadigabbia "Montalperti" 2001, Gevrey Chambertin AOC. Albert Bichot 2000, Pessac-Leognan AOC. Clementin du Pape Clement 1999, Sauternes AOC. Chateau Villefranche 2003

Dinner Menu: Grilled marinated tuna & fresh lobster with candied, Roasted filet of venison with  white asparagus and morels mushrooms, Pear and chocolate charlotte with "Belle de Brillet" liquor, Cranberry and raspberry sorbet.


Riedel Company was founded in 1756. From its beginnings in northern Bohemia down to this day, for 11 generations (for now) Riedel Glass has stood for the high art of glassmaking. In the end of 1950-s Claus Riedel discovered that bouquet, balance and aftertaste of wines depend on the form of the glass. He was thus the first person in the long history of the glass to design its shape according to the character of the wine. He is thus the inventor of the functional wine glass. He started creation and producing of the glasses assigned for different wines and alcohol drinks and which will intensify their taste. Innovative work of the company was based on the scientific research and information received from the world-famed experts and wine producers. Riedel started producing revolutionary-designed glass. Glass thinly blown, unadorned, designed reduced up to minimum: cup, stem, base. Working with experienced tasters, Riedel had discovered that wine tasted from his glasses shown more intensive taste and balance than those tasted of other glasses.
